At Windwood Presbyterian Church in Houston, Texas, Dr. Patricia Ryan leads a team of nine counselors at the Hope for the Hurting Home Clinic. They counsel couples all over the United States both in-person and via Skype using Hope for the Hurting Home’s crisis marriage intervention techniques. This team is also working to train counselors in other churches in crisis marriage intervention techniques. Through training others, they hope to further increase the scope of their ministry and continue to save more marriages.
Friends First Responders Training
Friends and family members are often the first to know when a marriage needs help. Because of that, we believe they need to be equipped for those difficult conversations. This one-day training teaches ordinary people to effectively talk with their friends and family members who are “leaning out” of their marriage. Hope for the Hurting Home trainers teach participants how to stand for marriages and be a link in a chain to move their friends toward the resources they need to strengthen their marriage.

Faith-Based Discernment Counseling
The goal of Faith-Based Discernment Counseling is to facilitate a respectful, impartial conversation about whether divorce is the best and only option for a couple. It is a two session commitment. During those sessions couples dive into the issues affecting their marriage, how they got there, and what is at stake moving forward. Hope for the Hurting Home provides Faith-Based Discernment Counseling and also trains pastors and counselors in providing this type of counseling themselves.

Hope for the Hurting Home is expanding its ministry into South and Central America! We have partnered with Dr. Ramon Pastrano to plan how to effectively take our trainings to the Dominican Republic, his home country. Dr. Kenworthy’s book Before the Last Resort: 3 Simple Questions to Save your Marriage as well as some of our training materials are currently being translated into Spanish. We also plan to train pastors and leaders in the Dominican Republic in effective, faith-based marriage counseling principles. Finally, we will provide resources to support believers within Dominican churches as they seek to strengthen marriages in their culture. Discussions with leaders in other South American countries are underway. These conversations will continue as we learn more through our partnerships in the Dominican Republic.

Dr. Kenworthy has trained many military chaplains in Hope for the Hurting Home’s marriage counseling products and techniques. Through these trainings, chaplains learn to better support the marriages of the men and women they serve in the United States armed forces. Hope for the Hurting Home also provides Skype counseling to military couples. We hope to see our crisis marriage techniques spread through all branches of the armed forces and more marriages saved.
